Nuclear Submarine Tour

2009 ANS Student Conference

"Nuclear Engineers - Reacting To Power The World"

April 1 – 5 • University of Florida • Gainesville

This student conference, in partnership with the United States Navy, provided an exciting reward for students who registered early and selected a special free Kennedy Space Center tour option with a late airport departure -- An Exclusive Tour of the USS Memphis, a Fast Attack Nuclear Submarine! Information about this type of submarine may be found here, and further information about the US Navy Nuclear Officer Porgram may be found here.

The photos for the nuclear submarine tour have been posted online.

USS Memphis Nuclear Submarine

Due to recent circumstances, we were required to cancel the optional free Kennedy Space Center tour scheduled for the morning and early afternoon of Sunday April 5th, 2009. Foretunately, we were able to replace this activity with a free tour of this nuclear submarine at the same time and in almost the same location. A nuclear submarine tour is a once in a lifetime opportunity and generally considered much more rare than the general public Kennedy Space Center tour.

Unfortuneatly, only 50 conference attendees were able to sign up for this tour, and we had no spots become available. Those lucky 50 who did sign up for the canceled Kennedy Space Center tour have been emailed (on Wednesday March 18) to provide this notification and ensure that this change to their free tour is acceptable. If those people desire to cancel their participation for this free event, their spots may be made available to select lucky individuals with a later airport departure.
